No. 10 ‘Rabbits thump Throckmorton

GRAFORD – In a battle of Class A state-ranked teams, the No. 10 Graford Jackrabbits held off No. 21 Throckmorton, 69-61, here Tuesday in a key District 11-A contest.

The win elevates Graford to 16-5, and 2-0 in district play.

“It was a good win against a very good team,” Jackrabbits head coach Ty Tabor said. “There are still a lot of district games to be played, but the win was a real big step in the right direction.”

Tanner Hargrove led the ‘Rabbits with 15 points. Other leading scorers include Blake Smith with 13 points, Quinten Tabor with 12 and Pepe Paz with 10.

Throckmorton led 16-11 after the first quarter, but Graford cut the lad to 28-24 at the half. The ‘Rabbits outscored Throckmorton 19-11 in the third period to take a 43-39 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lady Rabbits stay unbeaten in 11-A

GRAFORD – Paced by 13 points from Sydney Wimberly and 12 points from Tyler Wimberly, the Graford Lady Rabbits defeated Throckmorton, 42-27, here Tuesday in a District 11-A game.

The win keeps the Lady Rabbits undefeated in district play with a 4-0 mark.

“This was a big win for us,” Lady Rabbits head coach Jarod Westmoreland said. “We played good enough to win, but we still have a few things we need to work on.

“In our past few games we have not gotten off to a good start, so we will look to improve in that area.”

Also scoring for Graford were Morgan Hendershott with seven points, Erika Chemello with six, and Katie Rochelle and Ashly Rogers, each with two.

Hendershott led the Lady Rabbits with five rebounds, with Tyler Wimberly, Rochelle and Rogers each grabbing two.

Tyler Wimberly led in steals with four, and Sydney Wimberly and Chemello each recorded three assists to lead the team.

Poolville upsets Santo girls, 46-45

POOLVIILE – Poolville went on a 14-6 run in the fourth quarter to come away with a 46-45 victory over the state-ranked No. 6 Santo Ladycats here Tuesday in a District 11-A contest.

“We played great in the first half, but we played undisciplined and did not execute our game plan in the second half,” Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “Poolville played a great game in the second half and deserved to win. We must fix and move on.”

Breena Raffaele finished with 12 points to lead Santo (21-4, 2-1). Also scoring were Payton Billue with 10 points, Sarah Van Remmen and Taylor Nemeth, each with seven, Alyssa McKennon with five, Courtney Flanagan with three and Kristy Trammell with one.

Santo led 11-8 after the first quarter and built a 34-23 lead at the half. Poolville outscored Santo 10-5 in the third period to cut the Ladycats’ lead to 39-32 as the contest moved to the fourth quarter.

In the junior varsity contest, Santo defeated Poolville, 64-12, with Chasen Howard leading the Ladycats with 23 points.

Also scoring were Callie Wharton with 16 points, Reagan Raffaele with 14, Jawnee Hess with seven, and Caylin Edwards and Judy Pope, each with two.

On Monday, Santo Junior High School girls swept Perrin. The seventh grade Ladycats (6-2) won 13-5, with Jill Johnson leading with eight points.

Also scoring were Victoria Gilbreath with four points and Cheyenne Jones with one point.

The Ladycats eighth grade team (6-2, 6-0) won, 49-10, with Sadie Gann leading with 15 points.

Also scoring were Lilly Motley with 10 points, and Makaylee Steiner, Caitlyn Finley and Sage Sparks, each with eight.

No. 2 Lipan downs Strawn, 44-39

STRAWN – Strawn suffered its first District 17-A loss of the season when Lipan defeated the Lady Hounds, 44-39, here Tuesday.

The loss drops the Lady Hounds to 21-6 overall and 3-1 in district play.

Jayde Price led Strawn with 21 points, with Tearany Atkins adding eight.

Also scoring were Jacqueline Berumen with six points and Shelly Abbott with four.

Hutton leads Lady Pirates to win

CHICO – Perrin post Kelsey Hutton recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Perrin Lady Pirates to a 46-13 win over Chico here Tuesday in a District 11-A game.

The win lifts Perrin to 17-6 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Scarlett Bowen led Perrin with 13 points. Also scoring were Hailee Fowler with seven points, Kirsten Barbare with six, Preslee Cox with four, Kali Parker with three, Jaydin Holt with two and Kelsie Anderson with one.
