ALEDO – Both Mineral Wells High School soccer teams were defeated by Aledo Friday night in District 12-4A matches at Aledo.
The Lady Rams fell in the early match, 4-0, while a late Rams’ comeback attempt fell short in a 5-2 loss to the Bearcats.
Both MWHS teams have 2-2 district records.
The Rams were down 1-0 at the half and Aledo’s lead grew to 2-0 early in the second half.
Omar Hernandez scored on a header to cut the lead to 2-1, but Aledo took a 3-1 lead after scoring on a rebound of a free kick.
The Rams cut the lead to 3-2 on a header from Bryan Flores off a cornerkick. The Rams were awarded a penalty kick, but Aledo’s keeper made the save to keep his team in front.
“Aledo’s ‘keeper made an unbelievable save,” Rams head coach Rolando Borjon said. “But (MWHS goalkeeper) Caleb Bandy also made a great save on their PK.”
Aledo added a pair of goals late to clinch the match.
Both MWHS teams travel to Saginaw on Tuesday.
