Price, Berumen earn girls’ 17-A top awards

Strawn Lady Hounds’ duo also named to TGCA all-state basketball team

Strawn Lady Hounds sophomore post Jayde Price was selected as the girls’ District 17-A, Division II Most Valuable Player and classmate Jacqueline Berumen was chosen co-Offensive Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.

In addition to their 17-A superlative awards, both Price and Berumen were selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team.

Price averaged 25.6 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per contest. She also averaged almost five steals per contest. Price hit 30 or more points in seven district games, with her high game in district a 38-point effort against Lingleville.

Price also scored 47 points in a non-district game against Abilene Christian, and she repeated that total in a non-district game against Brownwood.

Berumen averaged 14.8 points per game and 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Melissa Ramirez of Gorman shared the Offensive Player of the Year honor with Berumen.

Earning all-district, first-team honors for the Lady Hounds was sophomore Shelly Abbott, while Gordon Lady Longhorns junior Tristan Johnson was selected to the first team.

On the boys’ All-District 17-A, Division II team, Strawn junior Harrison Nowak earned first-team honors, while senior Cole Abbott made the second team.

Five Gordon Longhorns – Coletyn King, Michael Cherry, Pedro Lopez, Emory Allen and Garrett Collins – each earned an honorable mention.
