The Rams forced Perrin to turn the ball over on downs on the Pirates’ next possession, and MWHS took the lead for good when Guinn threw to Weiss for a 12-yard touchdown with 3:06 left in the first quarter. The conversion pass failed as the Rams led 14-8.
In the second quarter, the Rams stopped the Pirates with another turnover as MWHS defender Cain Caraway intercepted a pass.
However, the Pirates’ defense rose to the occasion and stopped the Rams on a fourth-and-eight at the Perrin 48.
The Pirates methodically drove the ball down the field, mainly on running plays by big backs Aguilar and Hill. In nine plays Perrin drove to the Rams’ 7, but on fourth down the Pirates fumbled and lost a yard to turn the ball back over to MWHS on downs.
Four plays later, Morales scooted 28 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown, and he also carried in the conversion as MWHS led 22-8 with 9:10 left in the third quarter. Two big plays in the TD drive were a 25-yard Guinn-to-Weiss completion and a 20-yard run by Morales.
The Rams held the Pirates on downs on Perrin’s ensuing possession. The Rams followed with an eight-play, 73-yard rive that ended on a five-yard touchdown pass from Guinn to Christian Garcia with 3:13 left in the third period. Angel Garcia ran in the conversion as MWHS extended its advantage to 30-8.
A big play in the drive was a 51-yard run by Weiss that brought the ball to the PHS 11.
The Rams closed the scoring on a 47-yard TD pass from Guinn to Christian Garcia with 1:20 left in the third quarter..
On its next possession, Perrin drove the ball to the Rams’ 18 on seven plays, but on fourth and two the Pirates were stopped on a fourth-down running play.
Perrin’s last drive was halted when Rams defensive lineman Demetrio Ramirez recovered a Pirates’ fumble.
Guinn and the Rams ran out the remaining two minutes of the contest for their fourth win of the season.
