The Mineral Wells Junior High School seventh grade football teams took two of three contests from Joshua Tuesday night at Ram Stadium.
The Rams “C” team defeated Joshua, 42-30. The Rams were led by the rushing attack of Edgard Tejeda and Brady Huseman. Tejeda scored twice while Huseman found the end zone four times.
The defensive stand out was Arturo Zapata, once again, with a fumble recovery and a sack.
The Rams “B” team downed Joshua, 28-0. Touchdowns were scored by Khalil Thompson, and Irving Batrez and Angel Batrez.
The “A” team dropped a 24-22 decision to Joshua. Brandon SanMiguel and Brandon Hinojos found the end zone. Quarterback Ryan Goodwin also added a couple of two-point conversions.
8th-grade teams fall
The Rams eighth graders played in the “Mud Bowl” in Joshua.
“The sloppy mess made the game very interesting,” coach Taylor Tomlin said. “None of our teams were able to win or put points on the board, but we some toughness out of some our players.
“Jason Hite ran the ball very well for the “C” team. Joshua Almanza made several tackles for the “B” team, and James Gonzales ran the ball very well for the “A” team.”
The”C” team fell, 38-0; the “B” team took a 28-0 loss; and the “A” team fell, 48-0.

Lady Rams run away with district opener vs. Castleberry, 16-2
While the rest of Mineral Wells ISD was relaxing on spring break, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams were going to work. In their District 6-3A opener, Tuesday night, at Kessler Field, the Lady Rams demolished the rival Castleberry Lady Lions, 16-2, in just four-and-a-half innings, bringing their season record to a glowing 17-5.
The weather wasn't the only thing heating up, Monday afternoon. The Mineral Wells Lady Rams (16-5) were simply on fire in both phases of the game as they crushed the Graham Lady Blues, 10-0, in five innings at Kessler Field.
Protecting their home turf
After finishing the first day of the Mineral Wells Tournament a perfect 3-0, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams (15-4) were back in action Friday with a double-header to close out the home portion of the tourney.
Rams shine at Brock Tournament

The All-District 17-1A-II teams for both boys and girls basketball have been announced and rivals Gordon and Strawn have left an indelible mark on the 2013-24 edition with the two schools combining for six players on the boys team and a whopping 11 girls receiving honors.
