LAKE WORTH – Reagan Patterson drove in four runs and Bethany Allen added a pair of RBI to lead the Mineral Wells Lady Rams to a 13-3 victory over Lake Worth here Tuesday night in a District 6-3A contest.
The Lady Rams were supposed to continue 6-3A play at home on Friday against Diamond Hill. However, rain postponed the district track meet to Thursday and Friday which as a result moved the district softball games to Saturday.
But the start time was not set at press time. Check www.mineralwellsindex.com for the Saturday start time.
The Lady Rams took advantage of seven walks and two hit batters to score 13 runs in the first two innings in a contest stopped by run rule after the fifth inning.
Kelsey Keeton started in the circle for MWHS, allowing no earned runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in two innings.
The Lady Rams welcomed back Allie Stephens to the circle for the first time since before district play began. Stephens pitched the final three innings, giving up no earned runs on one hit with three walks and five strikeouts.
Lady Rams head coach David Tarver said everyone got to play, and that some players switched positions after the second inning.
“Allie looked good for her first time back,” Tarver said. “She had not pitched since our tournament in early March.
“She had a little rust, which was to be expected, but she was not wild. When she missed a pitch, she was missing around the strike zone and did a good job.
“But the biggest thing we got out of this game was in the last three innings everyone got to play, and no starter played her regular position. It was a lot of fun, especially when Sydney (Shelstead) got a base hit.
“(Regular starting second baseman) Chandler (Ortiz) also made a diving catch in center field and threw for a double play after the catch.
“The girls had a good time.”
Tarver said his team is not looking ahead at next week’s district-ending games with Springtown and Kennedale, the latter which could be for a share of the district championship.
“I like where we are at right now, and I am happy to see the girls came in and took care of business,” he said. “If we beat Diamond Hill we will clinch a playoff spot.”
Lake Worth walked the first three batters of the game. Keeton drove in Allen on a fielder’s choice, and Patterson scored for a 2-0 lead after Stephens drove her in with a single.
However, Lake Worth matched the run total with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first to knot the contest at 2-2.
The Lady Rams scored 11 runs in the second inning to increase the lead to 13-2.
Patterson swatted a pair of hits in the frame including a single that drove in a run and a three-run double down the right-field line.
Allen recorded two RBI in the inning on a double to left and when she walked with the bases loaded.
Ortiz (single), Keeton (single), Makayla Nance (walk with bases loaded) and Tabby Santibanez (hit by pitch with bases loaded) each drove in a run in the second.
Lake Worth closed the scoring with an unearned run in the fifth inning.
