Mineral Wells all-state left-handed pitcher Matt “Moose” Tincher signed a letter of intent last week to play baseball at Seminole College in Seminole, Okla.
In his three years as a starting varsity pitcher at Mineral Wells, Tincher struck out 330 batters in 199 innings.
He finished with an overall record of 21-5, added five saves and was selected to the all-district first team three times and the all-region team twice in addition to his all-state accolades.
Perhaps the most telling statistic is that Tincher allowed just 37 walks in 199 innings.
“We may never see a guy like Tincher again around here,” Mineral Wells head baseball coach Bret Barrick said. “I had never seen anyone like him before. “Matt carried us on the mound this year, and he gave our kids a lot of confidence when he was on the mound. “Matt had a great high school career, and he is the best pitcher I have ever been around. He will go down as one of the best pitchers Mineral Wells has seen.”
Seminole is a NJCAA Region II school that has produced 180 professional players, including 25 major league players, and has had 52 players named All-American.
The college has made 15 NJCAA World Series appearances in the last 33 years, and is coached by Lloyd Simmons, in his 27th season as head coach.
Tincher will join a Seminole State pitching staff that finished the 2013 regular season ranked No. 1 in the country in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings. The Trojan pitching staff led the country this year with 476 strikeouts in 54 games and averaged 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
