The eighth-grade “A” team Lady Rams hustled great last Thursday, running after loose volleyballs, diving on the floor and really working together.
However, it was not enough to defeat a very hard hitting, hard serving team from Joshua.
Leading the Lady Rams in passes to target were Sunni Lemley with 40 good passes followed by Madison Gibbs with 17 passes to target and Middle hitter Kaylee Gregory with 16 passes to target.
Leading the Lady Rams in hitting were Kaylee Gregory with seven hits, Cali Pilgrim with four hits, Sunni Lemley and Pond Blackmer with two hits each and Haylee Hunter with one big hit.
Leading the Lady Rams in digs were Beatriz Martinez with five digs and Danialla Vera with three digs while Kierra Pruitt had one dig.
“The Lady Rams showed a lot of hustle and heart on defense but struggled to mount the offensive attack they are known for,” Lady Rams head coach Jeff Brumfield said.
Ladies 8th B falls short
On Thursday the eighth grade “B” team played the best game of the season with a very competitive match with the Joshua Lady Owls.
The Owls won the first game 25-14 in spite of a very good performance by the Lady Rams.
In the second game the Lady Rams began to settle into a new playing system and battled through without one of our top players.
The Lady Rams came from behind to tie the game at 24-24.
In the end, however, the Lady Rams fell short, 26-28.
“This was a great game with great rallies,” coach Victor Pyle said.”Some of the outstanding players were Ashley Anderson with five passes to the setter and five points from service.
Carlie Arwood had three passes and five sets. Destiny Bell made 10 passes and five spikes, while Sammie Salinas made seven passes and four points on serve.
Carlie Fenner made 13 passes, and Montana Choate had 12 passes, seven spikes and four blocks. Angel Beavers made 11 passes, a spike and 14 points on service, including eight consecutive service points bringing the team from a 21-14 deficit to a 21-21 tie.
