Mineral Wells No. 1 mixed doubles team of Molly Clarke and Ty Tarver breezed through the competition to win the mixed doubles after a 6-0, 6-2 win over Granbury Thursday at the Ram Invitational.
Clarke/Tarver won their first match, 8-1, and defeated another Granbury pairing in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-0.
“Molly and Ty have won three tournaments and have come in second in another this season,” MWHS tennis coach Carla Narcomey said. “They are a tough combination.”
On the boys’ side, in doubles, the MWHS team of Max Grider and Orlando Garcia finished in second place.
The duo defeated a Millsap team, 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round, and won 6-2, 6-4 over another Millsap pairing in the semifinals.
The Rams’ duo was defeated 6-2, 6-2 in the finals.
The Lady Rams’ doubles team of Cierra Turk and Maycie McCauley also placed second.
The pair defeated Breckenridge, 6-2, 6-3 in the opener and won 6-2, 6-3 over Albany in the semifinals before falling to Granbury in the final, 6-4, 7-6.
In other girls’ doubles, MWHS’ Rachel Merritt and Leia Montgomery fell 8-6 to Albany in the opener, but rallied back to defeat Breckenridge 8-1 and Springtown 8-4 to win the consolation bracket.
Other MWHS competitors included Katie Pilgrim, and Macy Nix in girls’ singles; Eric Parker and Cayler Banks in boys’ singles; and Matt Whitworth and Rachel Montgomery in mixed doubles.
