Lady Rams fall at Azle; face Godley at home Friday with 4:30 p.m. start

AZLE – It has been a very difficult first 18 matches in 2013 for the Mineral Wells Lady Rams volleyball team and head coach Taylor Eggleston.

Needing to rebuild an entire front row and trying to find the right combinations, Eggleston is still in the evaluation process and will use all of her pre-district matches to try and find which ladies play well together.

The Lady Rams (6-12) suffered another set back here on Tuesday night as a talented and tough Azle Lady Hornets squad defeated MWHS, 25-11, 25-4, 25-13.

Eggleston and the Lady Rams will be back on the court on Friday at the MWHS gym to continue non-district play against Godley. The varsity

match will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the freshman and junior varsity matches at 6 p.m.

“(Tuesday) night was very trying,” Eggleston said. “We went up against a tough Azle team. But after losing the first two games our girls played a lot stronger in the third game.

“The girls are going to have to step up and get going and work hard to prepare for Godley on Friday.”

The Lady Rams are replacing four starters this year and needed to find three solid starters on the front row, another back row defensive specialist and another setter before district play begins Sept. 27 at home against defending district champion Kennedale.

Eggleston appears to have found the second setter as junior Riley Bullock has seen a lot of rallies in backing up starting setter Erin Burgeson.

But the coach is still evaluating personnel and will use the remaining tournament and seven other non-district matches to find “the right combinations.”
