ABILENE – Santo senior Taylor Nemeth is southbound once again.
The local athlete punched her ticket to the UIL Track and Field State Meet after locking up a second-place finish in the triple jump at the Region II-1A track meet at Abilene Christian University's Elmer Gray Stadium over the weekend.
It will be Nemeth's second trip to state this year, after helping the Santo Ladycats' basketball team to their first appearance in the state tournament in over half a century.
Her second-place finish at regionals came courtesy of a 35-foot-6 jump – good enough to net her the fifth seed going into the state meet, which will take place at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium, May 9-10.
Although she will be Santo's lone representative at state, she was not the only thinclad in green and white to place at regionals.
Kyle Moore snagged a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.50.
Jacob Master also fell just short of state qualification, earning bronze in the discus with a 153-foot-8 toss.
Colton Edwards finished fourth in the high jump, registering a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.
