With a second-place finish in the District 15-1A Tournament in the books, the Santo Ladycats golf team has qualified for the Regional Tournament, which will be held at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird, April 14-15.
Through two rounds at Canyon West in Weatherford and PAR Country Club in Comanche, the Ladycats shot 858 as a team – good enough for 118 shots behind district champion San Saba, who placed five golfers in the top 10 including Megan Jennings in first place.
Jaci Trotter led the way for Santo, shooting a second-best 87 in the first round, followed by a 97 in Comanche. She finished fourth individually and first among Ladycats with 184.
A big reason for Santo's second-place finish were four Ladycats who made up the bulk of the middle of the pack, as Reagan Raffaele, Emily Ashbrook, Lindsey Sams and Makaylee Steiner took eighth (Raffaele and Ashbrook tied), 11th and 12th, respectively.
Raffaele and Ashbrook both saw their scores improve between the first and second rounds. Raffaele began the tournament with a 114 before coming back with a 110 to finish with 224. Meanwhile, Ashbrook lowered her first-round 115 to 109 for a to tie her teammate at 224.
Sams shot 114 and 118 for a total of 232, while Steiner shot an even 120 in both rounds to finish with 240.
Occupying the Ladycats' final spot was Sadie Gann, who finished 17th with a two-round total of 253. Gann shot 125 in the first round in Weatherford and 128 in Comanche.
In the boys' tournament, it was Chico that took the district crown, while the Wildcats finished sixth.
Cooper Elliot was the only Santo Wildcat to place, earning 42nd with 254. He had to claw back from a rough start, finishing his tournament with a second-round score of 113 after posting a 141 in the first round.
