CHINA SPRING – For the first time in this postseason the Mineral Wells Lady Rams have started a best-of-three series down 0-1, after losing a battle with the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers, 14-5, Friday night in China Spring.
Although it might seem odd to say Mineral Wells “battled” in a nine-point loss to the No. 2 team in the state, the Lady Rans refused to give up and ate away at a sizeable Liberty Hill lead all game, giving reason for confidence heading into game two.
In reality, if it wasn’t for a massive seven-run second inning – with two Mineral Wells errors – that put Liberty Hill up, 7-1, it might have been a totally different ball game.
Junior Allie Stephens took the loss for the Lady Rams after pitching a complete game with five strikeouts to bring her season total to 142. Bethany Allen, Hope Patterson and Kelsey Keeton tied for the team lead in hitting, each going 2-for-4 at the plate and grabbing an RBI apiece.
First pitch of game two is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at China Spring High School and will be broadcast on QXFM 88.5 FM. If necessary, game three will immediately follow at 3 p.m.
