BURKBURNETT – Sydney Shelstead and Niya Benavides each scored 16 points to lead the Mineral Wells Lady Rams to a 45-31 victory over host Burkburnett Saturday in the championship game of the Burkburnett tournament.
The Lady Rams (16-5) also won the Italy tournament earlier in the season, and last month placed third in the Glen Rose tournament.
The Lady Rams will play next when they open District 6-3A play at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Castleberry.
Shelstead was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, with Bethany Allen earning all-tournament honors.
Also scoring for MWHS in the title game were Allen with 11 points and Natalie Ragland with two.
To reach the championship game, the Lady Rams defeated Seymour, 51-33, with Shelstead leading with 17 points and Benavides adding 10.
Also scoring were Courtney Peña, Allen, Kennedy Shelstead and Ragland, each with six points.
In the opener, the Lady Rams defeated Wichita Falls High School junior varsity, 76-26, with Benavides leading with 22 points and Sydney Shelstead adding 21,
Also scoring were Pamela Hopkins with nine points, Ashlynn Robinson and Peña, each with six, Kennedy Shelstead with five, Ragland with four and Allen with three.
