Lady Rams coach John Tuggle pointed to defenders Mason Malone, Erin McGuire, Emily Clingings and Jessica Baeza as also being key to the shutout.

In the nightcap, the Rams shut out the Roughriders, 2-0, with Caleb Bandy earning the shutout in goal.

“We showed up with one thing in mind (Tuesday) night, and that was to return home with a win,” Rams head coach Rolando Borjon said. “I told the boys to stay positive and relaxed throughout the entire match, and they did.”

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a pinpoint header assist from Gilbert Castorena to Roberto Martinez.

Officials awarded the Rams a penalty kick, and Serjio Castillo put the ball past the Saginaw keeper to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.

Bandy and the Rams’ defense held Saginaw in check the rest of the match to secure the win.

“This was a big win for us,” Borjon said. “The boys did a good job of battling the wind in the first half, and they played a solid second half.”
