Mineral Wells junior sprinter DaShawn Hicks' bad luck just keeps coming.
Saturday night at the Class 3A State Track and Field Meet at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Hicks, who had won very 100-metter race he had entered this year, including the Region I meet, was charged with a false start at the state 100-meter dash and was disqualified.
Hicks came into the race in Austin nursing a hamstring he pulled in the 200-meter dash at the regional meet two weeks ago.
He underwent heavy treatments coming into the state meet, but with the DQ he will never know how his hamstring would have held up.
Hicks ran a 10.31 at the Region I meet. The winning time at the state meet Saturday night was 10.49 by Jay Bradford of Splendora.
Earlier Saturday, Lady Rams thrower Sydney Shelstead recorded a mark of 131 feet, five inches to place second and earn a silver medal in girls' discus.
