GRAPEVINE – The Mineral Wells High School cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleaders' Association's cheer camp in Grapevine two weeks ago and proved that spirit will definitely be high at every Rams and Lady Rams sporting event this coming school year.
From June 23-26, the Mineral Wells cheer squad used their time in the Metroplex to both impress and improve.
The group of captain Makayla Nance, co-captain Adrian Ramirez, co-captain Kara Salisbury, Fantasy Cervantez, Veronika Chavira, Kaitlin Norton, Kristian Hart, Macci Jackson, Taylor Otwell, Becca Smith, Faith Moses, Makayla Cantu, Gavin Jones, Gina Perez, Carolina Zambrano, Mia Ragland, Brooke Lopez, Taylor Levan, Sammi Salinas, Destiny Bell and Shaylee Pesqueda and mascots Alex Pearcy and Jessica Isenberg won numerous awards.
The squad earned a "superior" rating on squad cheer performance, an "excellent" rating on their squad home pom routine and another "excellent" rating on their squad extreme routine dance. Mineral Wells cheerleaders also won a spirit stick award each day of the camp and were named the most improved squad at the camp's conclusion.
Multiple cheerleaders also won individual honors as Ramirez and Hart were named to the All-American Cheerleader Squad and Pearcy took home the Leadership Mascot award. But Nance may have topped them all, earning the "Pin It Forward" award for demonstrating great leadership and attitude and always going above and beyond all expectations.
Don't miss the Mineral Wells High cheerleaders when they help kick off the school year at the football team's first game on the road against Bridgeport, Aug. 29.
