MWJH football, volleyball teams compete well

Burleson Hughes took five of six games from the Mineral Wells Junior High School Rams seventh and eight grade football teams on Oct. 1.

In seventh-grade action, played at Hughes, the Rams “A” team won in a thriller, 16-14.

Rams “A” team touchdowns were scored by Brandon SanMiguel and Brandon Hinojos.

The Rams seventh-grade “B” team fell, 8-0, to Burleson Hughes.

In the Rams seventh-grade “C” team game, MWJH fell, 30-20.

Edgar Tejada was outstanding on offense, scoring all three touchdowns.

Each of these teams are 1-2 on the season

The MWJH Rams eighth grade teams were swept by Burleson Hughes in games played at Ram Stadium.

The Rams “A” team dropped a 36-0 decision. The Rams were led in rushing by Orlando Valley. On defense, Seth Slack had an interception, and Trace Coe had a fumble recovery.

The loss drops the Rams eighth grade “A” team to 0-3.

The eighth-grade Rams “B” team fell in a close contest, 20-12.

Rams’ touchdowns were scored by Trevor Haubert and Zach Glover. The loss drops the Rams to 1-2.

The Rams “C” team fell 14-0. The Rams were led in rushing back Joshua Almanza. Almanza also had 15 tackles on defense.

The loss drops the rams to 0-3.

“Our best performance so far this year was in our scrimmage against Glen Rose,” coach Taylor Tomlin said. “The eighth graders all tied their games, and the seventh graders won.

“We have had played some tough teams so far, but we have some big opportunities today against Granbury Acton.”

The Rams eighth grade teams will play at home today with games beginning at 5 p.m. (“C” team), 6 p.m. (“B” team) and 7 p.m. (“A” team) at Ram Stadium.

The seventh grade team will be at Action with games beginning at 5 p.m. (“C” team), 6 p.m. (“B” team) and 7 p.m. (“A” team) at Ram Stadium.

Lady Rams 8th A defeats Acton

The Lady Rams eighth-grade “A” team girls played a great game Thursday and defeated a very talented team from Acton in a thrilling three-game match.

Leading the Lady Rams in passing were Sunni Lemley with 50 good passes followed closely by Madison Gibbs with 34 passes to target while Kaylee Gregory, Daniella Vera, Pond Blackmer, and Beatriz Martinez all had over 10 passes to target.

“This was a great hitting game for the Lady Rams with numerous hits and kills,” coach Jeff Brumfield said.

Leading the Lady Rams in hits were Gregory and Lemley with six kills each followed by Madison Gibbs with five hits and Hailey Hunter with big hits. Leading the Lady Rams in blocks at the net were Gregory with three, Madison Gibbs with two and Hailey Hunter and Sunni Lemley both had one each.

“This was truly a tremendous team effort by these Lady Rams who have been very exciting to watch this year,” Brumfield said. “Congrats on a great win.”

7th C drops match

The seventh-grade Lady Rams “C “team played two close, hard fought games against the Acton Lady Pirates, but lost 26-24, 26-24.

Leading the team in serves was Isis Harley with nine service points and an ace, while Destiney Prescott lead the team in passing with nine passes and two aces.

Claudia Rangel added two aces  and three service points.

 7th B falls

The Lady Rams seventh-grade “B” team fell short to the Acton Lady Pirates, 25-15, 25-19.

Leading the Lady Rams was Ambria Luster with 13 passes to target, two service points and an ace.

Leading scorer for the Lady Rams was Katheryn Monzon with three service points and two aces.

 7th A drops match

The Lady Rams seventh-grade “A” team played well but fell short to the Acton Lady Pirates, 25-11, 25-21.

Leading the Lady Rams was Terra Newsom with 11 passes to target, seven service points and three aces.

Following behind was Charlee Hickey with 13 passes to target and five service points.
