CCS Warriors win; can reach playoffs with victory next week

STERLING CITY – Community Christian School senior Isaiah Brazeal scored four touchdowns on offense and returned an interception for a score to lead the Warriors to a 102-70 victory over El Paso Immanuel Christian here Friday in a District 3 contest.

The win raises the Warriors’ overall mark to to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in District 3 play. In other district action, Azle Christian defeated Willow Park Trinity Christian, 68-20.

CCS will conclude district play at 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) at home against Willow Park Trinity Christian. The winner will advance to the playoffs while the loser’s season will end. The top two teams from each district in the TCAF advance to the playoffs.

“We dominated in pretty much every offensive set we ran,” Warriors head coach Bryan Horton said. “Isaiah continues to play well out of the spread, and out of tight formations Levi Knowles (200 yards, 5 TDs) ran well behind great blocking.

“Sammy Brazeal also added four touchdowns and ran in a bunch of (one-point) conversions. Daniel Timmons also had an outstanding game from the ‘C’ position.”

Horton was also pleased with the Warriors’ defense. Knowles and Isaiah Brazeal each recorded six sacks.

“We faced a lot of spread sets and defended them better than we have all year,” Horton said. “Levi and Isaiah were a force.

“This was exactly the game the guys needed to play.”

Era stops Perrin

PERRIN – Era recovered a fumble to stop a late Perrin drive as the Pirates fell to the Hornets, 13-6, here Friday night in a District 8-A contest.

Perrin (4-4, 0-3) will continue district at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) at Electra.

Strawn wins in blowout, 58-8

RISING STAR – No. 14 Strawn had little trouble in a 58-8 victory over Rising Star in a District 12 game stopped by the 45-point mercy rule.

Strawn (6-2, 1-0) will continue District 12 action at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) at home on Homecoming Night against Sidney.

Gordon runs past Gustine, 68-6

GUSTINE – Seth Allen scored three rushing touchdowns and added a TD reception, and Seth Wheeler threw for a score, caught a TD pass and ran for another score to lead the Gordon Longhorns to a convincing 68-6 win over Gustine here Friday night in the District 10 opener.

The win evens the Longhorns’ overall record at 4-4 and 1-0 in district play.

“We had a very balanced attack offensively,” Longhorns head coach Joe Kostiha said. “We were concerned with just one thing – going 1-0 in district.

“I am pleased with the win, and our special teams played terrific. Gustine never started past their own 35 after kickoffs and our kickoff team recovered a couple of fumbles.”

Humberto Estrada added a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Chase Coffman and Garrett Collins.

“This was the first time Chase and Garrett have scored a touchdown on the varsity level,” Kostiha said. “Our line did a great job of creating opportunities for our ball carriers.”

The ‘Horns will continue District 10 play at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) at Evant.

Dallas Life downs Millsap, 51-28

OAK CLIFF – Dallas Life Oak Cliff held serve at home and defeated the Millsap Bulldogs, 51-28, here Friday night in a key in a District 6-2A matchup.

The loss drops the Bulldogs’ District 6-2A mark to 1-4 and 2-6 for the season.

Millsap will continue District 6-2A action at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1) at home against Scurry-Rosser.

    Despite a brilliant defensive effort that kept the game locked at 1-0 until the final frame, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams found themselves so close, yet so far away, falling to the second-ranked team in the state, the Kennedale Wildcats, for the second time this year, 3-0, Friday night.
