Millsap’ Younger, Strawn’s Alison each finish sixth at state track meet

AUSTIN – Three Gordon boys’ relay teams, two Strawn boys’ pole vaulters and a Millsap girls’ distance runner all competed Friday and Saturday at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

The highest finishers of the group was Millsap’s Haley Younger, who on Saturday placed sixth in the Class 2A girls’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.21, and Strawn boys’ pole vaulter Owen Alison, who also finished sixth with a mark of 12 feet.

Ann Marie Dunlap of Crawford won the 2A girls’ 800 race with a time of 2:18.83, while Jayden Jones of Blackwell won Class A, Division II boys’ pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, six inches.

At the boys’ Class A, Division II meet, the Gordon boys’ sprint relay team of Coletyn King, Emory Allen, Michael Cherry and Jacob Wigington placed seventh with a time of 45.05.

Paducah won the race with a time of 43.56.

Gordon’s 800-meter relay team of King, Caleb Johnston, Wigington and Allen raced to a time of 1:37.72 and placed eighth.

Lenorah Grady won the race with a time of 1:31.21

Gordon’s mile (1,600-meters) relay team finished seventh as Xavier Castenada, Christopher Lynn, Johnston and Garrett Collins turned in a time of 3:42.12. Lenorah Grady won the race with a time of 3:31.

In other Class A, Division II boys’ pole vault results, Strawn’s Tyler Bayes placed eighth with a height of 10 feet.

    As the window of the regular season creeps ever closer to an end, teams all across the state are making the final push for the playoffs with a lucky few in hopes of improving their final playoff seed. Locally, the Santo Wildcats (9-6, 8-3) of the baseball diamond and Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates (12-7, 6-4) softball team are no exception.
