The Rams and Lady Rams track teams of Mineral Wells Junior High saw some strong individual performances at the district track meet, April 7-8.
Few had as good of a meet than eighth grader Maddie Gibbs, who won two events and placed in another. Gibbs was golden in the 2400-meter run, finishing with a time of 9:29.6, and again in the 1600-meter run, crossing the finish line in 5:51.
Gibbs also ran on the 1600-meter relay team with Kylah Carter, Sunni Lemley and Beatriz Martinez. The four girls finished seventh in that event, with a 4:34 mark.
Carter also placed in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 28.3 for sixth and Lemley finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, posting a 53.6 time.
For the boys, seventh grader Brandon Hinojos was the one to watch, as he won the junior high boys' only first place in the discus with a throw of 112-foot-5. He also placed sixth in the shot put, tossing his weight 33 feet and 6 inches.
Also placing for the seventh grade boys were Ethan Bedell, who finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, and the fourth-place 4x200-meter relay team of Angel Batrez, Irving Batrez, Ryan Goodwin and Bedell.
The top performer among eighth-grade Rams was Noe Salazar, who finished second in the 2400-meters in 8:07.84. Trace Coe also placed for the eighth grade boys, finishing fifth in shot put and sixth in discus.
