SPRINGTOWN – When Patterson comes to the plate, there is always Hope a rally will ensue.

On a day where the first-place Mineral Wells Lady Rams’ bats did little at the plate, all they needed was one big hit to give starting pitcher Kelsey Keeton all the runs she would need Tuesday against the Springtown Lady Porcupines.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning and with runners at second and third, Mineral Wells sophomore third baseman Hope Patterson smashed a timely two-run double that plated Bethany Allen and Reagan Patterson to give the Lady Rams a 2-1 lead that would hold up as MWHS stayed undefeated in District 6-3A play with a one-run win.

Allen had opened the frame with an infield single, and Reagan Patterson followed with a single to left field. The next batter, Chandler Ortiz, successfully executed a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third before Hope Patterson’s hit, which turned out to be the game winner.

Keeton kept the Lady Porcupines at bay, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in seven innings.

“Kelsey pitched well, and it was nice to win a close game,” Lady Rams head coach David Tarver said. “We did not have a good game offensively, but in spite of that we still came out on top.

“Hope came through for us when we needed a big hit.”

The win sets up a first-place showdown today at home against 4-0 Kennedale. The first pitch will be at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Kessler Field. It will also mark the halfway point of the district season.

In addition to hits by Hope Patterson, Allen and Reagan Patterson, Anjelica Trevino also recorded a hit.

Springtown opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a lead-off triple followed later by a run-scoring base hit.
