The All-District 17-1A-II teams for both boys and girls basketball have been announced and rivals Gordon and Strawn have left an indelible mark on the 2013-24 edition with the two schools combining for six players on the boys team and a whopping 11 girls receiving honors.
Strawn's offensive skills did not go unnoticed by district coaches as Greyhounds dominated the top of both lists at the "Offensive Most Valuable Player" spot. For the boys, it was junior Harrison Nowak who took the honor while two ladies shared the title on the other side.
Juniors Jacqueline Berumen and Jayde Price were named Co-Offensive MVPs after helping Strawn to an appearance in the Regional Finals, where they would ultimately lose to district foe Lipan, 80-40.
Appearing on first-team for the ladies were seniors Shelley Abbot, of Strawn, and Tristan Johnson, of Gordon. No Greyhounds or Longhorns garnered first-team honors for the boys.
Coming in on second-team all-district were Strawn junior Tearany Atkins on the girls' side and Gordon senior Seth Wheeler and Strawn sophomore Coletyn King for the boys.
Six girls earned honorable mention for the two rival schools, with three coming from each. Representing Gordon were seniors Kaylee Ginn, Hailey Rouge and Laura Stockstill. Strawn placed senior Eva DeGregorio and juniors Cidney and Cori Pollock.
Garnering honorable mention for the boys were senior Longhorn Garrett Collins and two Strawn juniors: Tyler Bays and Abram Jaramillo.
