The Santo Wildcats and Ladycats bested two local rivals in Palo Pinto County baseball and softball action, recently.
The Wildcats dispatched the Graford Jackrabbits, 9-3, in a matchup on Santo's home field, Friday night.
It was a dominant effort by the home team, in which the 'Rabbits only mustered one hit, despite some opportunistic base running.
The game started close, but the Wildcats gradually pulled away, scoring no less than two runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.
Kyle Moore got credit for the win while posting a stat line including two earned runs and a stunning 13 strikeouts through six-and-a-third innings of work, before Dylan Swinney closed out the game.
The Wildcats thrived off of the middle of their lineup, as the batters in the four through six holes combined to finish 5-of-9 with four RBIs and five runs.
Swinney led the way from the cleanup spot, hitting 2-for-2, both doubles, and registering an RBI, a walk and three runs.
In all, eight of nine Santo Wildcats got at least one hit. Conversely, the Jackrabbits only saw one player not bat zero, as Austin Stumpfrock finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and a run.
Stumpfrock's single to leadoff the game was the only play preventing Moore from a no-hitter against Santo's neighbors to the north.
Elsewhere in Palo Pinto County, the Ladycats of Santo narrowly defeated the Gordon Lady Horns in a 17-16 softball shootout in Gordon.
In a back-and-forth ballgame, the Ladycats held off the surging Lady Horns, who's rally fell one-run short in the bottom of the game's final frame.
Ashleigh Kroll got credit for the victory with a stat line that included five strikeouts and two walks. She also contributed to the run total, crossing the plate three times along with all eight other Ladycats in the Santo lineup.
Also scoring for Santo were Haley DeShazo with three, Caitlin Pechacek with two, Macie Fuller with two, Jawnee Hess with one, Caitlyn Finley with one, Chasen Howard with two, Charly Barton with two and Skye Barak with one.
The win improved the Ladycats' record to 2-5 in district.
