It was a festive occasion Monday night at the Mineral Wells High School gym as Lady Rams and Rams fans were introduced to the freshman, junior varsity and varsity football and volleyball teams, the cross country teams, student trainers and students participating in drill team, band and cheer.

The annual “Spirit Night” event was also used for a membership drive for the Mineral Wells Athletic Booster Club, a club that raises money for all sports at MWHS.

The MWABC set a membership record last year, but wants to add more members this year.

“What we do is give fans an opportunity to support our athletes,” booster club secretary Kelly Simonton said. “And not just football. Our club supports all of the sports. We like to provide that extra funding to help the teams get equipment and such that they need to succeed.

“We consider ourselves more of a support organization.”

The club has three levels of membership with three different donation prices. All packages include a Rams decal, four-meal family pack redeemable at a booster club concession stand, one membership vote, email updates and notifications and 10 percent off on spirit sales.

A “Ram Family” membership costs $25, and a “Ram Fan” membership costs $100 and additionally includes one monogrammed custom Ram polo shirt.

The final membership plan is the corporate plan which costs $250. In addition to what the other two plans include, the corporate plan adds choice of a Ram custom polo shirt or a Ram flag; a corporate sponsor banner displayed at all MWHS home sporting events; corporate name announced between quarters at home football games; and an opportunity to sit in the hospitality room for one designated home game.

In addition to helping with the cost of equipment, booster club donations have funded playoff banners, uniforms, golf bags, high jump mat, tennis court mats and a pitching machine for the softball team.

During the 2012-13 school year, the booster club had more than $23,000 in donations.

“These contributions could not have been made possible without the participation of our generous membership base,” Simonton said.

Simonton, who has been involved in the booster club for 12 years, said it is “very easy” to join the booster club.

“We have sent applications in the mail, and we have a table set up at home games,” she said. “You can join for as little as $25.

“Our new thing this year for corporate sponsors is having the opportunity to sit in the hospitality room for one home game. That is our way of saying thank you.

“Last year, we had one of our greatest membership drives and we had a total of 70 members. We want to shoot for 100 members this year.

“We also want to thank current booster club members for supporting our kids.”
