Winning three matches this past weekend with a pair of wins at the Peaster tournament and a non-district match at home Friday against Bridgeport, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams volleyball team is making strides as they inch closer to their District 6-3A opener.
The four victories elevated the Lady Rams’ overall record to 8-18. The district opener will be Sept. 27 at home against defending district champion Kennedale.
The Lady Rams, who enjoyed an open date on Tuesday, will continue non-district play at 5:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 13) at Glen Rose.
Lady Rams head coach Taylor Eggleston was proud of the way her team fought Friday against Bridgeport. The Lady Rams won the first two games, 25-13, 25-22, but the Sissies came back with wins in games three and four, 25-19, 25-21.
However, the Lady Rams were in control in game five and took a convincing 15-8 victory to seal the match.
“The Bridgeport win was a nice win for us,” Eggleston said. “I saw a lot of good things. The best part was we came back in game five and closed it out. (Senior setter) Erin (Burgeson) and (sophomore defensive specialist) Mason (Malone) each were serving aggressively on Saturday (at the Peaster tournament).”
At the Peaster tournament, the Lady Rams defeated Perrin (25-14, 25-16) and Eastland (25-9, 25-14), but fell to Godley (25-14, 25-17), Peaster (25-14, 25-18), Maypearl (25-11, 25-19) and Glen Rose (25-22, 25-22).
