GRAFORD – Tyler Wimberly scored 19 points and recorded three steals to lead the Graford Lady Rabbits to a 43-38 win over the Perrin Lady Pirates here Tuesday night in a girls’ non-district basketball game.
“I thought we played our best game of the year,” Lady Rabbits head coach Jarod Westmoreland said. “The girls did a good job of passing to the open person, and we seemed to always answer when Perrin went on a run.
“Our goal on defense is to hold a team to under 10 points in a quarter, and we were successful in three of four quarters.”
Also scoring for the Lady Rabbits (7-7) were Sydney Wimberly with 10 points, Morgan Hendershott with six, Katie Rochelle with four, and Ashly Rogers and Erika Chemello, each with two.
Chemello also had a team-high seven assists, and Rogers led in rebounds with four.
Graford led 11-9 after the opening period and built a 24-18 halftime lead. The Lady Rabbits scored eight points in the third period while holding the Lady Pirates (11-3) to six to take a 32-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
No. 5 Ladycats roll
State-ranked No. 5 Santo went on a 16-3 run in the second quarter on its way to a 48-33 win over Nocona Tuesday in a girls’ non-district basketball game.
The win raises the Ladycats’ mark to 16-2. Santo will play next at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hico.
Sarah Van Remmen scored 12 points to lead the Ladycats, with Courtney Flanagan adding nine.
Also scoring for the Ladycats were Payton Billue and Taylor Nemeth, each with eight points, Alyssa McKennon with six, Megan MacPherson with three and Breeana Raffaele with two.
In the junior varsity contest, Santo defeated Nocona, 37-25, as Chasen Howard led all scorers with 21 points.
Also scoring for Santo (7-1) were Callie Wharton with 10 points, and Caylin Edwards and Judy Pope, each with three.
Price scores 35 in Strawn win
STRAWN – Jayde Price scored 35 points and Shelly Abbott dished out 16 assists to lead the No. 8 Strawn Lady Hounds to a 55-34 win over Cross Plains here Tuesday.
Also scoring for Strawn (12-5) were Cori Pollock with eight points, Jacqueline Berumen with five, Eva De Gregorio with four and Tearany Atkins with three.
