With both the Gordon Longhorns and Strawn Greyhounds each making it to the state semifinals in their respective six man divisions, it is little wonder that both are well represented on their respective all-region football teams.
Both Strawn and Gordon coaching staffs were recognized as All-Region “Coaching Staffs of the Year,” and both teams fielded players who earned top region awards.
Gordon’s Michael Cherry earned the Region III, Division I “Offensive Most Valuable Player” award, while Strawn’s Ross Alison earned the Region III, Division II “Newcomer of the Year” award.
Also, Strawn senior defensive end Bobby Wells was named the Region III, Division II “Defensive MVP.”
In addition to Cherry, Gordon had five players in six spots on the Region III, Division I first team including Jake Wigington (tight end), Stephen Plowman (center), Emory Allen (quarterback, cornerback), Alex Montelongo (defensive line) and Jonathan Ruiz (linebacker).
In addition to Wells, Strawn placed six players in seven spots on the Region III, Division II first team including Dub Little (tight end), Cole Abbott (center, linebacker), Harrison Nowak (quarterback), Jacob Trujillo (fullback), Grayson Brandenburg (defensive lineman) and Adam Jaramillo (cornerback).
