Despite a heavy mist to begin the practice game and heavier rains that came later, it was a successful preseason home opener for the Texas Bullets, a Texas United Football League team which moved to Mineral Wells this year after a five-year stay in Weatherford.
The Bullets fell to the defending TUFL champion North Texas Longhorns.
Local players Scott Aaron, Ismael Valley, Daniel Gray, Terrance Lawson, Johathan Mendez, Eddie Davila, Jose Gutierrez and Colton Taylor are members of the Bullets.
Running back Mike Armstead scored the first Bullets touchdown since the team relocated to Mineral Wells.
The Bullets will play their season opener on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Gainesville against the Cook County Outlaws.
The Bullets regular season home opener is Saturday, March 9 against the Denton County Rhinos.

SPRINGTOWN – Nobody said it would be easy. But despite an energized opponent and a rowdy hometown crowd that lived up to its reputation, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams (24-6, 8-1) made the best of their long-awaited final trip to Springtown and beat the rival Lady Porcupines, 16-5, on senior night, Tuesday.
SPRINGTOWN – Three days before a colossal rematch for first place in District 6-3A with Kennedale, the Mineral Wells Rams (15-10, 6-2) got a resounding punch in the gut from their area rivals.

As the window of the regular season creeps ever closer to an end, teams all across the state are making the final push for the playoffs with a lucky few in hopes of improving their final playoff seed. Locally, the Santo Wildcats (9-6, 8-3) of the baseball diamond and Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates (12-7, 6-4) softball team are no exception.

SPRINGTOWN – The Rams and Lady Rams of Mineral Wells High School orchestrated a strong showing at the District 6-3A Track Meet in Springtown's Porcupine Stadium, last Wednesday and Thursday.
Gordon, Strawn finish strong at area track meet, combine to send 32 to regionals
STRAWN – Last Thursday was a good day for the track teams of Gordon and Strawn at the District 17 and 18-1A Area Track Meet, hosted by the Greyhounds on Strawn's campus.
FORT WORTH – The Mineral Wells Lady Rams (23-6, 7-1) took another step toward achieving their ultimate goals this season with an 18-1 shellacking of Diamond Hill-Jarvis to officially clinch a playoff berth, Friday, on the north side of Fort Worth.

The Mineral Wells Rams (15-9, 6-1) are officially playoff-bound after a breezy 14-6 win over the Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles (4-13, 0-7) in a three-hour affair, Friday night, on the north side of Fort Worth.
