Starting out the season at 1-5 after a 43-27 loss at Godley on Tuesday, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams hope to get back in the win column when they host Class A Lipan today.

Tip off between the Lady Rams and Lady Indians will be at 6:30 p.m. at the MWHS gym.

The Lady Rams have improved under the boards as their 38 rebounds against Godley attest. Tabby Santibanez led MWHS with 11 rebounds, followed by Natalie Ragland with seven and Ashley Valdez with four.

The MWHS ladies also limited their turnovers, two areas of recent concern for Lady Rams head coach Leslie Holman.

“We improved on rebounding and I was pleased to see we cut back on our turnovers,”Holman said.”But (against Godley) we just could not get the ball to go into the basket.

“It would be nice if we could get everything working together in a game.”

The Lady Rams shot a season-low 15 percent Tuesday at Godley, hitting just seven of 44 shots.

“Going into the Godley game we had talked about how they liked to shoot the three,” Holman said. “However, Godley always seemed to find the open girl on the outside and we gave up six three-pointers. They were also 100 percent (9-for-9) at the free throw line.

“We shot a lot more threes but couldn’t capitalize. But again, I was pleased with our rebounding.”

Against Godley, Ragland led the Lady Rams with 11 points, followed by Santibanez and Carson Couger, each with four, Ashlynn Robinson, Pam Hopkins and Courtney Peña, each with two, and Valdez and Megan Powell, each with one.

Godley led 11-4 after the first quarter and 24-11 at the half. Godley outscored MWHS 8-4 in the third period to take a 32-15 lead into the fourth quarter.
