Attending plays and busting ice ‘round Millsap

(Continued)

Thanks firefighters for all of the time and effort that you put in protecting us; and we appreciate your families in their support of your service.

Word has reached the community of the passing of former Millsap resident Jadie Wheeler. Mrs. Wheeler had been making her home in Cleburne, and was 94 years of age. She loved to bowl and played in a league during her ninth decade; plus she was an avid reader. Her daughter, Carol Buchanan, is a well-known Millsap resident, as she volunteers many hours at the elementary school. Condolences to Mrs. Wheeler's family.

With everything coming to a standstill during the ice storm, there were sadly reports of many accidents and problems. Of note, for Pastor Jim Sanders of Millsap Methodist Church, this was the first Sunday in over 47 years that he had not been able to participate in a Sunday worship service.

On the up side, we had the fire department meeting all kinds of needs, plus Michael Kinman and Melvin Davis kept a check on the water and warmth of Millsap public buildings.

For those with stock, Richard Brunner traveled to neighbors' tanks and kept the ice broke out for the animals. This is only a few of the many, many people from here and all around who reached out in countless ways to help during a very difficult time.

As we have already experienced some treacherous weather, the professional predictions are included in the Old Farmers Almanac, which has an 80-percent accuracy. The Almanac predicts below normal temperatures and above normal snowfall during most of the winter across most of the nation. The National Weather Service, basing their predictions on long-range forecasts and trends, is saying it's likely to remain warmer than normal and less rainfall this winter. Whoever turns out to be more right, let's just be careful and stay safe.

In Millsap City news, the council has appointed Teresa Howard to a vacant seat. Congratulations, Ms. Howard!

Also, Millsap Methodist Church has rescheduled the brunch cancelled due to the weather.  They will meet at 8 a.m. on Dec. 15 to enjoy this time of fellowship.

Thanks for reading!
