A flurry of holiday dos, pet adoptions and a successful after-school program

As Christmas Day approaches, it's wonderful to look back on events that have recently taken place in celebration of this special time.  For our community, Dec. 14 was highlighted with a full day of festivity for everyone.

With Heritage Park fully decked out in decorations, vendors set up there for a cold day of meeting the public and passing out hot chocolate. At the Community Center there was a party going on all day long and into the evening. Some of the fun there included a brunch, crafts, movie time and snacks.

As 5 p.m. approached streets were lined with folks who enjoyed a wonderful parade. Highlights included appearances by the Grinch, Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. One of the most unusual sights was a classic Cadillac painted in camouflage and one of its riders appeared to be an impersonator from the Duck Dynasty clan. The parade wrapped up at Heritage Park with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The fireplaces were lit in the park cabins and there was a multitude of children waiting to greet and meet with the jolly old elf. Excitement ran high as everyone was warmed by a delicious supper of hot dogs and chili, compliments of the City of Millsap.  Neighbors greeted neighbors and all was very merry as Christmas music played in the background. This evening took a lot of planning and work and thanks go out to all who helped and donated with special thanks to the City of Millsap, Michael Kinman, Melvin Davis, Diane French and Stella Casey. A wonderful time for our community!

Word has come from the Millsap Heritage Society that they still have 2014 Historical Calendars for sale.  The calendars feature area photos of many buildings and businesses that no longer exist, such as the Millsap Train Depot and Strain's Mercantile. These would make a great gift or a unique decorative focal point in your home for the next year. The cost is $10 per calendar, and it costs less than $2.60 to mail one of them. If you would like to buy one, they are available at Millsap City Hall or call 940-682-4402 and leave a message. These will be very enjoyable for any history buff.
