The Millsap Cemetery Association is making great progress on funding for building a pavilion at the graveyard. People have been very gracious in purchasing the homemade tamales that are a specialty of Mrs. Urlinda Ortiz, and everyone agrees that they are absolutely delicious. These are made by special order for $10 a dozen and would make a great item for holiday menus. To order call 940-682-4871; your appetite will thank you!
To send a donation to the building project, mail it to Millsap Cemetery Association Treasurer, 1156 Wilson Bend Road, Millsap, TX 76066. This pavilion is sorely needed, so please help if possible.
With so many homeless pets, Waldens Farm and Ranch Supply Stores in Mineral Wells and Weatherford are taking a role in helping find homes for cats and dogs. Waldens in Mineral Wells (196 Garrett Morris Pkwy.) has partnered with the local Humane Society and Animal Shelter and has cats available in the store for adoption at all times, and dogs on a more limited basis. The store sponsors a Pet Adoption Day one Saturday each month, with the next slated for Jan. 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
While new owners always receive a free 5-pound bag of food for the pet, if you adopt in January the free bag will be 15 pounds. So far 88 animals have been adopted through the store, and the goal is to make it 100 by Jan. 11.
The Weatherford store (2551 South Main Street) sponsors a Saturday adoption day every 4-6 weeks, as well as both stores sponsor vaccination days. Weatherford Waldens has also been taking donations for the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter to help fund building an isolation house for sick and debilitated animals. This is a very worthwhile venture by this business, and a great way to help animals' health and find them a forever home.
While school will be closing down for the holidays, one program that has had a very successful first semester is the Millsap Afterschool Program. We are very proud of this program as it comes from a grant funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This is a truly enriching program for students in a rural school setting and brings the students involved endless opportunities. There are also parent engagement opportunities available, with Monica Clifton coordinating this aspect of the program.
