Millsap Matters - April 6, 2014

Mineral Wells Index

— In springtime we think of getting outside and enjoying the things of nature.  That's what Millsap elementary students will be doing in an educational setting on April 7.

A Mobile Dairy will be coming to the campus and is sponsored by the Parker County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.  The unit is provided by Southwest Dairy Farmers and includes a milking parlor and cow.  There will be a presentation about various aspects of the dairy industry.  Students will learn all of this in an outdoor environment while experiencing a program that includes math, science, health, and agriculture.  What a great way to open new horizons for the youngsters.

Sunday, March 30, was a special day for a special lady of the Cool community.  It was Barbara Rothrock Appreciation Day at Millsap Methodist Church and Holders Chapel.  This was a surprise event for Mrs. Rothrock and began with a brunch at Millsap Methodist.  Barbara was recognized for being a church pianist for over 50 years, starting this ministry as she entered her teens.  The church congregations showered her with cards, plants, and gift cards to thank her for the many years of faithful service.  In addition to serving churches in this capacity Mrs. Rothrock has been involved in a number of other ministries across the years, retired from a career of teaching in the Millsap ISD, and diligently serves on the Cool City Council.  She also runs Rothrock's Vegetable Stand with her husband, Jim.  This well-deserving lady fully enjoyed the day with family members sharing it with her.  Congratulations Barbara on this honor.

We are getting ready on April 7 for a fun evening with a Spaghetti Supper and Donkey Basketball sponsored by our High School Girls Basketball Team.

This will all take place at the High School with the Spaghetti Supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. for $5 per person.  The Donkey Basketball starts at 7 p.m. and there are two games.  In game one the Boys Athletics vs. the Coaches, and in game two the Girls Athletics vs. the Staff.  Tickets are available at all Millsap ISD Offices and are $6 in advance or $8 at the door.  This will be a great evening, so come join in the fun!

Saturday, April 12, will be a very busy day at the Millsap location of Walden Farm and Ranch Supply.  There will be a low cost, drive through Vaccination Clinic sponsored by Millsap Veterinary Clinic and Waldens.  The store is located at 201 Fairview Road, and clinic hours are from 2-4 p.m.  Services include rabies and annual shots for dogs and cats and for horses VEWT, Flu Rhino, West Nile, rabies, and Coggins.  For more info call Millsap Vet Clinic at 940-682-4970.  This is also Fish Day at all Walden Stores and delivery time at the Millsap location will be 10-11 a.m.  Call ahead for large orders, discounted prices, or other info to 940-682-4667.

In a very heartfelt ceremony former Millsap Elementary Principal Wayne Hubik received an Honorable Service Recognition Award at last month's School Board meeting.  As many remember, Mr. Hubik became critically ill following surgery and it has been a long battle in regaining his health.  Thank you, Mr. Hubik, for all of the years of dedication to our students.

Millsap Methodist Church invites everyone to worship with them on Maundy Thursday, April 17.  The service will begin at 7 p.m. and will be in remembrance of the Last Supper.
