Fire station helps young boy and local schools are gearing up

By Sharron Hudson | Special to the Index

Though temperatures are extremely hot there are many yard sales being held.  One special yard sale was recently held at the Millsap Fire Station to help out an extraordinary young boy.

Millsap Kindergarten student Alex Voss was the recipient of profits from a two-day sale at the station, with the monies going toward medical testing that he needs. Alex has a multitude of health issues and while he has private insurance it would not cover a test that he needs very quickly. His problems result from a syndrome caused by micro chromosome deletion. It took years and help from the Mayo Clinic to diagnose his illness. It was only the fifth such case that the clinic had ever diagnosed, and there are only 120 known cases throughout the world.

While the syndrome causes Alex numerous symptoms, he is an energetic go-getter and is making great strides in his life.  He has an extremely supportive family and parents are Justin and Kari Voss. Kari is a great asset to the community as a member of our fire department.

While the sale helped with Alex's need, he has so many ongoing health issues that contributions are still needed. As we all know, insurance certainly does not cover everything in illness. To help this little guy, donations can be sent to Alex Voss, 2905 N. Murco, Mineral Wells TX 76067. This is a wonderful boy and a great family so please help if possible.

With the start of school only weeks away, and the first day in Millsap being Aug. 26, school personnel will soon start back to work. New staff in-service will be Aug. 14 and teachers will begin work on the 15th.

While hard at work preparing for the students, the staff will be treated to their Annual Luncheon hosted by Millsap First Baptist Church. This is a much-anticipated event as the workers are well fed and gifted with many special treats. A great way to start off a new work year!
