Millsap gearing up for busy holiday season and ... taxes?

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, there has already been at least one Thanksgiving feast in Millsap.  Millsap Elementary recently enjoyed a lunch period with families joining students for a great meal and good visiting.

One of the highlights of the meal has become Principal Cathie Bradshaw and Counselor Roxie Bean helping serve the food. The meal is a pre-celebration to the school holiday which for Millsap will be from 1 p.m. on Nov. 26 through the rest of the week. This feast has been a tradition for the elementary for at least 20 years; and while some of the logistics have changed, the heart of the reason for it has remained the same as staff always endeavors to teach the students about thankfulness. In conjunction with thankfulness the kids are being taught about community service and giving back.

On that note, the elementary is having a food drive so the local food pantry will be stocked with enough non-perishable foods for the Christmas season. While our schools, various churches and civic organizations all donate, there will be a greater need during the time kids are out of school for the Christmas holiday. Many of the children eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, so there will need to be food for these meals in the home during the school break.

Other items that need to be considered for donation are laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet tissue, and hygiene essentials. Our Helping Hands Pantry is a ministry of Millsap First Baptist Church, and it is open Tuesdays, 8:30-10 a.m., for donations and to pass out items. There is great need, so along with our school children and their families, please help if you can.

As we move toward December there are going to be Christmas celebrations going on everywhere. Our neighboring towns to the west and east will both be having some great Christmas fun on Dec. 7.
