Pitch in to keep Parker County roads litter free

By SHARRON HUDSON | millsapmatters@mineralwellsindex.com

MILLSAP – Everything looks so pretty and green after the rain. While we enjoy this beauty along our roadways there is a need to keep them clean. Adopt a Country Road Parker County is an organization that provides a way to help with this.

The program began in 1998 and is similar to the Adopt a Highway Program. It recruits businesses, churches, and organizations to sign a two year agreement to clean a designated stretch of road. The county provides a roadway sign which identifies the adopting group. Reflective vests for volunteers to wear during cleanups and trash bags are also provided. Adopting groups are recognized by having their picture in a local newspaper. For information call Program Chairman Darwin Yeary at 817-599-3919 or 817-458-1628.  This is a great project that helps the environment in a number of ways.

Millsap ISD is pleased to announce Denise Lee as the MHS head volleyball coach. Lee comes here after serving as head volleyball coach at Gorman ISD. With seven years in education she will also serve as Millsap’s girls athletics coordinator and assistant girls basketball coach. She took the Gorman volleyball program to the playoffs in 2013 and is already hard at work for our students. She sends out thanks to the school system for this opportunity and to the community for making her feel so welcome. Glad to have you here, Coach Lee!

Word has been received of the death of Wendell Roy, an alumni of Millsap ISD. Mr. Roy came from a large family of Millsap grads, and his late brother Robert was responsible for beginning the Millsap Alumni Scholarship Foundation in 1998. Wendell made his home in Fort Collins, Colo., and many from here will remember the two brothers who survive him, Monty and Edgar.

Troy Waller, a young man who spent all of his growing up years in Millsap has passed away after a very lengthy illness. Troy loved the Lord and has a very devoted family, and his grandparents are the late Ira and Edith Waller who made their home in Millsap for many years. Troy is survived by a large family that includes grandmother Edith, parents John Waller and Connie Martin, brothers Michael Waller and Benjamin Waller, and aunt and uncle Janie and Gary Glover.

Remember the Parker County Peach Festival is Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., in downtown Weatherford. Go have a great time!

The Poe Prairie Cemetery Association will have is annual meeting on July 19 at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the cemetery and will include business, ice cream, and visiting.

Have a good week!
