MILLSAP – As we head into the Christmas season there are so many events and activities going on that it’s looking very bright! One special invitation has been issued by the city of our neighbor Cool to its residents.
On Monday there is going to be a Cool Christmas Get Together at Cool Community Center. Beginning at 6 p.m. there will be a lot of good fun going on with local talent Amanda Reddin playing her guitar and singing. To add to the enjoyment Mexican food will be served, catered by Pulidos. This is a free party for the folks of Cool to all come together for a wonderful holiday time of visiting and enjoying festivities courtesy of their city government.
Men from the Masonic Lodge of Millsap are looking toward the upcoming State Communication meeting in Waco on Dec. 6-8. This is the time when decisions are made about changes to their laws and new officers for the 147 districts are recognized. On a local level, plans are in the works for the Yearly Awards Ceremony that includes service and special awards. The group here does a lot of charity and supportive work in the community and many awards are deserved.
The Millsap VFD needs volunteers interested in becoming a part of their First Responder Program. These responders assist LifeCare on medical calls in our area. There is an Emergency Care Attendant Class starting in January and completion of the class makes students eligible to respond. The Millsap VFD will pay for the class. For more information call the department at (940) 682-4390 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Also you are welcome to come to the monthly meeting the first Tuesday of each month at the fire station beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Unfortunately, the Christ’s Kitchen Breakfast, which was scheduled for Nov. 24, had to be canceled. When I spoke with Jennifer Bland, who is the steward of this ministry, she told me that her son got very ill with pneumonia before Thanksgiving and, as he grew progressively worse, had to be admitted to the hospital. As her place was with him the event had to be put on hold, but there are preliminary plans to reschedule. Thankfully her son is home from the hospital but has a ways to go before he is fully well. We wish him a good recovery and hope that this family gets a breather as this has been a very trying time for all concerned.
We have double events coming up on Dec. 8 with Millsap’s Log Cabins and Methodist Church on the Parker County Heritage Society 31st Candlelight Tour of Homes, 1-7 p.m. Of special interest will be the exhibit by the local Thumbs and Thimbles Quilting Club at the church. There will be one quilt up for raffle with tickets $1 each/$5 for 6, which will benefit the Parker County Abandoned Cemetery Association. Tickets for the tour may be purchased at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce or Doss Center.
The other event that many are looking forward to is the Millsap High School FCCLA Craft Show, which is going to be set up in the high school cafeteria. You will have plenty of time to go over and shop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors must register by Dec. 5, and to do so contact Callie Collier at (940) 682-3216 or email@example.com. This will benefit the club, so drop by and support these young people’s efforts.
Our elementary students are in for a special treat this coming week as the PTO will be sponsoring the Annual Christmas Store open to students only. This is a great tradition in which the kids are given the opportunity to shop for affordable gifts in a safe and helpful environment. Geared to the kids budget all items are $1. PTO President Michelle Bryan says this is a teaching tool on the idea of giving instead of receiving. Hope the kids have a great time!
A reminder that as you make decisions on giving during this special time of year that you might consider Millsap Elementary Principal Wayne Hubik and his wife, as they are not able to work at this time due to an unexpected complications of a back surgery he had in August. Mr. Hubik has not been able to work any of this school year and his wife can’t either because she has to be at home to care for him. To donate an account has been set up for them at First National Bank Santo with branches in Millsap and Cool. These are two hard working educators who need help, so please donate if possible.
