Lots of spring goings-on down Millsap way

The month of May has been filled with many edifying events in Millsap, and last Saturday evening many came out to enjoy another festivity held at Heritage Park. The Millsap Chapter of the Masonic Lodge hosted a Fish Fry/Bar-B-Q that was a real treat.

With plenty of tables located around the cabins, those who attended enjoyed a meal that was all prepared by the men and their wives. The fish and some of the other foods were fried in huge pots right on the grounds. This was some of the best food I've ever seen anywhere, and it was served  buffet style.

Besides the fish there were chicken strips, hush puppies, French fries, coleslaw, pinto beans and smoked ribs and pork roast. For dessert there were all kinds of cakes, pies and cookies available at the Ladies Bake Sale.

Jo Ann Barnhart had the cabin Post Office open and was giving tours, while other folks just enjoyed visiting and being out in the pleasant weather.  This organization did a great job with the profits going into their scholarship fund for Millsap senior recipients.

Another local organization that is always very busy is the Millsap Volunteer Fire Department.  With new members added every month since joining Parker County ESD No. 7 last November, the members recently participated in joint training on extrication. This educational experience was hosted by the Cool Garner Fire Department, with Greenwood and Brock-Dennis departments also being represented. These departments train together on a quarterly basis to sharpen skills.  Thanks Millsap VFD for training to help in emergencies and keeping us safe.

In other fire department news, the Millsap VFD Facebook page has posted that the Millsap VFD Annual Turkey Dinner will be changing to the Millsap Community Turkey Dinner. The idea is to support the whole community with the fire department members still being the leaders of the event. The department wants to use the dinner to support other community activities, such as the organization plans to establish a scholarship for a Millsap senior. The plan is for the dinner to still be held the second Sunday in November, and the department will be looking for groups who would like to be involved. This should be an exciting change, and we can look forward to the many positives that it will bring.
