Holiday dos and firefighter appreciation

(Continued)

Millsap High School Band recently competed in two contests at Glen Rose High School with wonderful results.  They first competed at the Paluxy Valley Marching Contest, where they were judged on marching execution and musical performance. They competed against schools that are classified 1A-5A, and won 11th place out of these 27 bands. They also competed in the Region 7 UIL Marching Contest.  The Band earned a 2nd Division Rating in this competition.

Congrats to the band, Band Director Phil Carpenter, and Color Guard Instructor Stephanie Greenway on these achievements!

Nov. 2 was a very special day for Millsap VFD as they dedicated a Memorial Bell to honor past, present and future firefighters who protect(ed) our area.  There were 18 men and two women memorialized during the ceremony. The bell was rung by a family member, or Chief Neal Doss, for each of these heroes. It was a very poignant, respectful time. The department gives special thanks to Mrs. Dorothy Guess for the donation of the bell. Her late husband O.C. (Bill) Guess was one of the founding members of the department. May we always be grateful for past, present and future Millsap firefighters, as we know those in other places are thankful for theirs.

Folks from our area are making plans to attend the Mineral Wells Ministerial Alliance's Community Thanksgiving Service on Nov. 24. This will be hosted by Mineral Wells First Baptist Church.  The Worship Service will begin at 5 p.m., and a traditional Thanksgiving meal will be served at 6 p.m. This will be a very edifying way to begin the Thanksgiving holiday celebration.

The Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club had a good time at their November meeting with Thanksgiving and turkeys the theme of the day. After a delicious lunch they had a very fruitful business meeting with the appointing of Linda Whitehouse as their publicity chairperson. It was also brought to the attention of members that Tax-Aide Volunteers will be assisting local residents with their income tax returns free of charge Feb. 1-April 15, 2014. The locations for this help will be the Weatherford Library, Boyce Ditto Municipal Library (Mineral Wells), and the Mineral Wells Senior Center. The Garden Club's next meeting will be Dec. 4 at the Millsap Community Center beginning at 11 a.m. Students from Garner

School will be performing a play for them. All women are invited.
