As we move into the month of May, many events surrounding our schools are happening. The most recent and much-anticipated celebration was the Alumni Reunion.
The celebration was held in the Elementary Cafetorium amidst beautiful spring decorations. There was a great crowd, which included a number of past and present school personnel.
Supt. Dr. David Belding was on hand lending his support in a number of ways, including helping ladies carry leftovers from the delicious lunch to their cars.
Included in the activities was a live auction, with special thanks going to Barbara Rothrock for the great desserts she created for the bidding.
The silent auction had some great items, including a beautiful afghan, welded sculptures and a packet of tickets to "The Promise." All of the profits from the auctions went into the Millsap Alumni Scholarship Fund.
One of the most special parts of the whole day was the representation of the Class of 1938. Three of the graduates from this class of 75 years ago were on hand. It was a joyous occasion, and plans are already in the works for next year's reunion.
One graduate who received some special attention at the reunion was Dr. Eldon Clary Jr., who was in the area to be recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of the Weatherford College Homecoming, with this honor making headlines in area papers.
A homegrown Millsap guy, with a multitude of family still living here, Dr. Clary is now Dean of the College of Education at Arkansas Tech University. After completing his masters and doctorate degrees at the University of North Texas, Dr. Clary has held various leadership positions at Arkansas Tech since the late 1960s. He has authored and presented numerous papers on a variety of educational topics, plus served on many peer-reviewed committees for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The recognition given this educator by Weatherford College is the highest honor bestowed on alumni. Dr. Clary was presented the award at the college's Homecoming Dinner. Congratulations Dr. Clary, and glad you came back for a visit!
