As we begin the hot days of summer, even though the school year is over there is still much activity going on through the Millsap After-school Program. Under the leadership of Director Summer Edwards there are a number of camps taking place for students.
The first such event was a recent robotics camp courtesy of the Agricultural Life Extension Agency. The students were fostered to build a number of different kinds of robots from everyday items and use battery packs to make them work. This enriched the kids science and technology skills. There is the classroom portion of Drivers Ed offered to students aged 15 years and up, plus a Cheer and Dance Camp for K-6th grade Millsap ISD girls. The middle school and high school cheerleaders mentor the campers, and some of the main goals are to teach about leadership and teamwork. Many wonderful activities for the youngsters this summer.
Director Edwards also wants parents of MISD upcoming Pre-K and kindergartners to know that a prep camp will be held the last two weeks of July to help get these students ready for the classroom structure. The Pre-K Camp will be held July 15-18 and the kindergarten camp will be July 22-25. Children must be enrolled in the district to attend. If you have questions or want to sign your child up, call (940) 682-3143.
Those who participate in the gospel singings at Holders Chapel, Cool and Lambert Switch Chapel, north side of Highway 180 about 10 miles east of Cool, invite everyone to join them for any or all of these events. These singings have been taking place on a regular basis for years and people travel from great distances across the state to participate or just to sit and enjoy the music. Holders Chapel hosts the first Saturday of each month, 6-8 p.m. Lambert Switch hosts the third and fourth Saturdays of each month, 6-8 p.m., and the second Sunday of each month, 2-4 p.m.
