MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap to celebrate Log Cabin Days

MILLSAP – With May here there are some terrific happenings in Millsap. Friday, May 9, will be a special day for fourth graders from our school and Garner.

In conjunction with the Log Cabin Days Festival, these students will enjoy a day filled with history as the Millsap Heritage Society hosts the youngsters at the cabin grounds. There will be tours of the cabins and hands-on activities for the kids. Some of the activities include quilting, plus soap and candle making. This is a big event for the fourth graders every year, and it gives them some good foundation in the subject of history.

Saturday, May 10, is the official Log Cabin Days Festival. It will begin at 7 a.m. with everyone invited to a free breakfast. The day will be filled with more 20 booths surrounding the cabins. There will be demonstrations, exhibits, live music and food for sale. The Millsap Heritage Society, which is sponsoring the festival, is selling quilt raffle tickets for $2 each or three for $5. The tickets can be bought before the festival at Walden’s Millsap location, 201 Fairview Road, or the day of the event at the Heritage Society booth. Come to Heritage Park, in downtown Millsap, for a day of old-fashioned fun!

A young Millsap family needs our help as their baby is very ill. Adam and Ashley (Schultz) Burn’s daughter, Paislea, is a patient of Cooks Children’s Hospital suffering with bacterial meningitis. There are complications of brain function problems and hearing loss. As the parents are staying with her, they need financial help. On that note, there will be a fajita dinner benefit on May 17 at Millsap Community Center. From 4-8 p.m. you can enjoy two fajitas, sides, dessert and tea for $10 or a dinner with three fajitas for $12. There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 split the pot. A bank account is set up at Comanche National Bank. For questions call 940-445-2809.
