Poe Prairie Cemetery meeting a success

By Sharron Hudson | millsapnews@mineralwellsindex.com

MILLSAP – One of the most anticipated happenings of every summer is the annual Poe Prairie Cemetery meeting. This year’s meeting was a great success, starting off with the business meeting. President James Chipman welcomed everyone and brought the invocation. Other board members, including Treasurer Stark Smith and Secretary Jo Ann Barnhart, were introduced.

The treasurer’s report and minutes from the last meeting were presented and accepted. The cemetery is in good physical and financial shape and the members of the board are doing a great job with plans to keep it that way. After the business there was a wonderful spread of ice cream and numerous sweets and a lot of good visiting and reminiscing.

Gary Williams, owner of the Malt Shop (located a few miles east of Weatherford) graciously provides the ice cream for this tradition, which has been going on more than 20 years. After everyone was filled with good food, musicians Wayne Armstrong and James Barton provided great instrumentals to many old time hymns with everyone singing along. With a very good turnout, this was a very enjoyable evening.

Many from around here participated in Weatherford’s Peach Festival. Some went as vendors, while others went just to look around and have a good time.
