The Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club had a productive meeting for the month of April. After a delicious lunch the highlight of business was making the decision to honor eight Millsap 2014 graduates with scholarships. The scholarship recipients will be recognized at the club's meeting on Wednesday, May 7. After the recognition ceremony the women will travel to the Fort Worth Civil War Museum, plus have lunch for their Out and About Day. All women are invited to join this organization which meets the first Wednesday of each month, about 10:30 a.m., at the Millsap Community Center. This club provides many kinds of support to the community and is a very worthwhile group.
Looking toward our neighboring school to the north, Garner ISD student, Travis Collins, has been honored by Whitt Masonic Lodge #624 with the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award as the 2014 Outstanding Student of Garner School. The 8th-grader is Beta Club Treasurer and a solid performer in all school athletics. The award is named after Lamar, who was a Mason and second president of the Republic of Texas, and considered the "Father of Public Education in Texas." Proud parents of the award's recipient are Michael and Christina Collins of Garner. Congratulations Travis!
There is good news about the bank in Millsap, which is a branch of Comanche National. Business is so good a second teller has been added. With this addition new accounts can now be opened at this branch. Also mortgage loans are handled there under the direction of Trey Haggard. It's great news to know our local branch is making new strides.
A reminder that everyone is invited to Millsap Methodist Church for Maundy Thursday Service, April 17, at 7 p.m. Holders Chapel extends an invitation to Sunrise Service on Easter, April 20, at 7 a.m. with breakfast at 8 a.m.
