Even though it is the middle of summer many plans are underway in preparation of the kids going back to school. Along this line, dates have been posted by Millsap ISD for registration and schedule pick-ups.

New students to the Elementary Campus are to register on Aug. 7, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. If the child was registered for Pre-K/Kindergarten in April they will not need to be signed up on this date.

On Aug. 12, beginning at 9 a.m., new Middle School students can register, plus Middle and High School students can pick up their schedules. For any questions call 940-682-4994.

Looking back at the graduating class of 2012, there is great news that this group exceeded the state and national averages in all areas of the ACT (American College Testing). In conjunction with this, Millsap High School was recently awarded the 2012 College Readiness Award from the Texas ACT Council. This honor was given for increasing the number of students taking the ACT assessment over the last five years and as a sign of increasing the level of achievement and college readiness. This happens as a result of staff efforts and dedication of students and parents to focus on career and college readiness. Only 170 high schools in Texas were honored for this superior accomplishment, and that represents only 9 percent of all Texas High Schools. Congratulations Millsap High School!

With a multitude of aspects of the Parker County Peach Festival making headlines in television and area newspapers, the Peach Pedal Bike Ride is of special significance around here as the participants come right through our town.  It was a great sight as the riders came through in large and small groups, all with great attitudes, and gave a uniqueness to an otherwise ordinary day.

Comments from some of the bikers included how thankful that they were for Boy Scouts who held their bikes while they re-hydrated. Many of the contestants enjoyed peaches at the rest stops, as well as, peach ice cream. One of the riders ranked the peach pedal as one of the top five rides in the state. It has become a wonderful tradition to see many of the over 2,000 riders come right down our roads and we hope it continues for many more years!

Here's an upcoming event that is sure to attract a large crowd. On Aug. 20, Walden's Farm and Ranch Supply will be hosting their Annual Wildlife Workshop. The evening of enjoyable information will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a free dinner at the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Posse Building, 1300 FM 1821 North, in Mineral Wells. There will be door prizes, coupons and specials throughout the evening. RSVP to reserve a spot by filling out the form on Walden's website or calling 940-325-8500. This is a great opportunity for all of those interested in wildlife or hunting.

Millsap Class of 1998 recently celebrated with a 15th Reunion. The group met at the Railhead Smokehouse in Willow Park to visit and enjoy refreshments. Alumni volunteering to decorate were Teffany Strickland and Telesa (Tapp) Jones, while '98 graduate Valerie (Valtiere ) Boyd was to present the class with a cake she made. Hope everyone had a great time reminiscing.

Reminder of the Parker County Abandoned Cemetery Association meeting on July 27 at 10 a.m.  They will gather at the Weatherford Library, 1014 Charles Street. Mowers are needed.
