— As we have gotten through the first icy spell of the winter months the Thanksgiving holiday brought some great celebrations. Among the many events that took place there was a blessed community church service in our town.
Millsap First Baptist Church hosted a Thanksgiving time of worship and fellowship with the congregations from the area Methodist Churches being special guests. Methodist Pastor Jim Sanders brought the sermon. The Baptist family went all out by providing a traditional feast of turkey and dressing with all of the trimmings. This special time has become a much looked forward to tradition for the church families involved. What a great way to start off Thanksgiving!
The Millsap Youth Association Bulldog Football Teams are now Super Bowl Champs. The teams recently traveled to Santo for the league championships. The 3rd and 4th grade teams won their Super Bowl by beating Brock 34-12. The 5th and 6th grade teams followed suit by winning over Brock 18-0 to achieve their Super Bowl Championship. It was very exciting to watch all of our players and cheerleaders. There was great support of the kids and the Bulldog spirit abounded. Congratulations to the MYA Super Bowl Champs!
While the ladies of the Millsap Quilting Club tend to stay very busy with a number of projects they will be taking some time to enjoy a Christmas party together. The event will take place on Dec. 10 at the home of Ruth Barr. One of the highlights will be Chinese Christmas. This is special for the women as each gift is home/hand made. The game brings about a lot of laughter with everyone receiving a beautiful gift. This is a time of well earned visiting and enjoyment as these women make many quilts
for organizations to raffle for fundraising, plus other quilts they make go to individuals who need help or support. The next club meeting will be Jan. 14, 9:00 a.m. at the Millsap Methodist Church and all ladies are invited.
Madison Ann Edwards is to be recognized as graduating early from Millsap High School. While Madison plans to join classmates for the traditional graduation ceremony in May, she will be an official graduate at the end of this semester. This young lady will be attending the University of Texas at Dallas on an academic scholarship, while being recruited for her athletic ability. She will play softball for the university beginning in the spring. Her proud family members are parents Greg and Jennifer Edwards and grandparents Don and Janice Edwards. Congratulations Madison on these achievements.
The Millsap Cemetery Association is busy making plans to build a pavilion on the grounds and in this vein they are having a fundraiser. The group is selling tamales for $10.00 a dozen and these are a generational recipe made from scratch. For purchase call 940 682-4871. These would be a crowd pleaser for a Christmas party. Also if anyone would like to donate to the pavilion project checks can be sent to Millsap Cemetery Association Treasurer, 1156 Wilson Bend Road, Millsap TX 76066. This is a worthy cause as the pavilion is needed when grave services are held in inclement weather.
As we are looking forward to the Community Christmas Celebration on Dec. 14 one of the vendors at the cabin grounds will be the Millsap Heritage Society. As a fundraiser their booth will feature 2014 Historical Calendars. The theme of the calendar is pictures of Millsap in past days. There is a limited amount of the calendars and the cost is $10 a piece. These calendars would make a great Christmas gift.
Reminders: Dec. 2 is the City of Cool's Christmas Party, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at their Community Center. Also, please consider making cookies and chili to help with the refreshments for Millsap's Christmas Celebration on Dec. 14.
