Fall festivals coming up almost every October weekend

Mineral Wells Index

— By Sharron Hudson

With the feel of autumn in the air many are looking forward to attending one of the many fall festivals that are coming up almost every weekend in October. The next one around our area is sponsored by Beulah Baptist Church.

There is going to be something for everyone when this event takes place on Oct. 26. For those who enjoy delicious food there will be hot dogs, nachos and cotton candy.

There is going to be a bounce house and plenty of great games with prizes. A balloon artist will be on site, and there will be door prizes galore. The fun will all take place 1-3 p.m. at 350 Beulah Lane, Millsap.

(This is south of Fox Road from the Mineral Wells Highway.) For more info call 817-594-3757.

This is going to be lots of fun and everyone is welcome!

Everyone is cordially invited by the Millsap VFD to a Memorial Bell Dedication Ceremony. This will take place at the Fire Station, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. The bell was donated by the family of the late Odell C. (Bill) Guess who was a founding member of the local department.

Besides being a loyal member of the MVFD, Mr. Guess was also known as a World War II hero, having survived being a POW for over three years.

The Guess family has always been a great support of many organizations and endeavors in this area. Mr. Guess’ wife, Dorothy, says this bell is to honor all past and present fire department members. A very thoughtful gesture by a very kind family.

As October is National Fire Prevention Month, Millsap kindergartners were treated to a visit to our fire station with fire department volunteers welcoming the kids, school personnel and parents. The students were taught about fire safety, with the theme for the week centering on kitchen fire safety.

The children were also helped by the firefighters to run water from a fire hose and sit in the trucks. During this yearly fire prevention month there is emphasis on all types of fire safety, from preventing forest fires to families planning escape routes in case of a blaze.

This was a much-needed time for our small ones; they learned a lot while having a good time.

Midpoint Chapel will be celebrating their 15th anniversary as a church family on Nov. 10. Recently several families from the church traveled to Lawton, Okla., for a very edifying weekend retreat.

Upon returning, several from the church spent three afternoons at Mineral Wells Health and Rehab Center providing a VBS Fall Faith Festival for residents there. This was a wonderful event with Bible study and activities enjoyed by many of the residents.

The church family will celebrate their anniversary with Sunday School at 10 a.m., Worship Service at 11 a.m., and a Potluck Lunch with an afternoon service to follow.

The afternoon service will feature the singing of the Bryant family, well known in the Mineral Wells area for a number of years through the heritage of Billye Bess Bryant Flores.

While the church had its beginnings in a three-room house in Millsap, it has been located for the last 14 years at 2304 South Farm Market 113, Millsap.

Everyone is invited to this special day as the church family gives special thanks to the Lord for His many blessings across the last 15 years.

A new assisted living facility recently opened its doors in Mineral Wells.

Serenity Estates is the dream of cousins Lori Hopper and Michael Bates, and they brought this facility into being to honor their beloved late grandmother who was very special to them.

This residence is located at the site of the former Resort Lodge, 401 Northwest 4th St.

It has many amenities and tours are offered. For more info call 940-325-3744. Hope this helps someone who needs this service.

Millsap Heritage Society is looking toward the Christmas month as the log cabins will be the focal point of the city Christmas celebration on Dec. 14. The society members will have their next regular meeting on Nov. 11, 7 p.m., at Heritage Park (Log Cabin Grounds).

These folks are always improving the cabins and grounds, and the latest addition is a glass case in one of the cabins for any items that need to be kept in such protection.

If you have any type of donation call 940-682-5331.

Early voting starts Oct. 21, and for those of the Millsap area, the closest place to vote early is the Old Administration Building in Brock.
