The 17th Annual Palo Pinto County Back-to-School Fair is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 8-11 a.m. at Mineral Wells High School.
The purpose of the Back-to-School Fair is to provide school supplies to children who might not otherwise be able to afford them to begin the school year on the right page. The fair has expanded in the past 17 years to include a vendor fair for agencies and churches in the areas to reach out to these families to possibly provide them with services that may be able to assist them in a variety of areas.
The fair also will include a blood drive, put on by Carter Blood Care, to collect blood donations for our area, as well as a bounce house, sports physicals and snow cones.
All of the supplies provided at the Back-to-School Fair are purchased entirely through donations made by our community partners and church members. This year organizers are hoping to provide backpacks full of supplies to approximately 800 area children.
Community partners have the opportunity to be an official sponsor of the Back-to-School Fair with their donations, with every donation over $100 being included on the sponsor banner that will be displayed at the fair. All donations can be made at the First Baptist Church office, 100 S.W. 4th Ave., weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Aside from donations, the Back-to-School Fair is in need of vendors to participate in the vendor fair, as well as volunteers to help set up, run and clean up the fair on Aug. 8th and 9th. If your organization is interested in participating in the vendor fair or you would like to volunteer or donate, contact chairman Liz O’Quin at (940) 654-0127 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
