“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David.”
Gabriel may have been the first to proclaim Jesus as the Son of the Highest, the Son of God. Jesus the Saviour, the one who would never hold political office, be a business magnate, and never command an army on the field of battle against an empire. Consider for a moment, if you will, the great Son of the Highest, the holder of David’s throne.
Recognize the credentials of the messenger who made the Annunciation. His name is Gabriel, which means “God (El) is my strength.” His position, according to what he says in Luke 1:19, is to stand in the presence of God, he’s in the Throne Room of God! He is sent out from the presence of God to speak to specific people of God, for great events and purposes. Only the Father speaking directly would be more authentic and authoritative than Gabriel – what He says is what the Father has already said in the Throne Room.
Jesus is great. Mark 7:37 records, “And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.” Since the foundation of the world, NEVER was it known that any man had made a man born blind receive his sight again, yet Jesus did that in John 9. Jesus is the Lord of Sabaoth, Lord of Hosts (James 5:4), which means He commands the largest and most powerful military force in the Universe, but holds it in reserve until the end of Time.
Jesus is the Son of the Highest. He is the “only-begotten” of the Father (John 1:14). The Father is El-Shaddai, the Almighty. The Father is El-Elyon Na Adonai, or the Lord God Most High. The Highest is the All-Mighty God over the gods of Egypt. He is the Ruling and Reigning Lord or Master over the oceans, the forests, and the skies—He is the God who defeated the false Tiamat, the false Baalim, who conquered all the gods of Mesopotamia and Canaan. He is the IHVH, or YHWH, the I AM THAT I AM – the Eternal, First Cause, Prime Mover, who IS, WAS, and EVER SHALL BE. The Father is the Highest.
Jesus is the Son. Only once did God ever Incarnate, or take the fulness of human flesh, and that one event was in Jesus. The Son born of the woman after she was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost, after Jesus was formed in her womb, is the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son. There are others who are adopted sons and daughters, but Jesus is the only heir of the fulness of the Father. Jesus is the One who opens Heaven for us, who makes it possible for us to be joint-heirs with him. Jesus, the Saviour, the Sacrifice, the Resurrection, and the Life. Jesus, the Son of God, who has done all things well.
